Tousled, untamed and textured
We are spellbound with SPELLBOUND in the November issue of Flare magazine. Tony madly worked his blow-dryer to create lived-in hair on models, Laura Kell (above left) and Gabrielle Lussier (above right). Tony elaborates in fashion-speak : “These looks are all about mixing pristine-pretty with a little bit of the perverse. I wanted the hair to have a Halloween-witchy feel to it”. Translation: It is okay to wear your hair a little messy; think tousled buns and wispy braids. Check out Flare.com to see how Tony gets the look with only 3 bobby pins.
This story has great ideas for what to do with your long hair on non-wash days or when you just don’t have 45 minutes to blow-out your hair. We think the tousled-bun is the easiest one; simply pin hair that hasn’t been washed in a couple of days into a low chignon. Don’t worry if it isn’t perfect- that is the point, it should look a slight bit askew. Next easiest is the messy-braid; make it modern by weaving thicker pieces and wearing it over one shoulder. Or you could go with the two-texture-tail; keep the roots shiny and flat but frizz out your pony- confidence is a must! Our favourite take on this look is the untamed-whirlwind seen on the Rodarte Fall 2011 runway; wear it down and big and don’t be afraid of all the attention. Whatever version, consider off-setting the casualness of your hair with a bold lip or a pretty accessory- something that makes your messy look more intentional than accidental.
Check-out some behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot. Tony bleached out Laura’s brows so that she would look more similar to Gabrielle; he counsels caution when it comes to lightening your own arches and thinks one shade lighter is a great guideline.
