FISHTAIL PHENOMENON

FISHTAIL PHENOMENON

So, why has there been a fever-pitch for the fishtail this summer? Mostly, because it is just so plain easy: part the hair in two and pull strands from underneath in a criss-cross style. That’s it! Don’t even worry about being perfect in your technique; you will achieve a softer, more romantic look. We even recommend gently massaging the finished braid to make it look less structured. Wear it over one shoulder, or be dramatic, and pin it up into a headband style; either way it effortless chic.

However, it is not just the fishtail that has “caught” on, braids, in general, appear to be having a revival. Given that everyone seems to have/crave long hair these days- we still adore the pixie- it was inevitable that we would travel this road again. This reincarnation is best summed up as a half way point between puritanical and hippie; think messy Sunday school braids.

We love braids because they are the best styling option for long hair when time and/or patience are in short supply. When the thought of a blow-out overwhelms you, take comfort in knowing that you will look just as stylish with a well appointed braid. It is the perfect solution for the day(s) after a shampoo, the more texture, the better the braid! If you are braiding wet hair, try to remove as much moisture as possible beforehand, by day’s end you will have lovely waves when you shake it out.

Do braids have staying power? Although they have been a big fashion hit this summer, we predict that they will remain relevant for awhile. As long as the lust for long hair continues, there will need to be practical styling options. For autumn, think how great the texture of a braid will look against tweed and corduroy. More importantly, think of all the time you will save fretting with your hair if it is all tied up. Keep your fingers nimble!
