Behind the Nomination
So proud! Our very own,Tony Masciangelo, has been nominated for Makeup Artist of theYear at tomorrow night’s P&G Beauty and Grooming Awards. Tony counts his blessings: “I am ecstatic for the recognition! I am grateful to do what I love! And most importantly, I love the people I collaborate with.” Here are the 3 beauty stories behind the nod…
Model,Ana Kurylo, received the plumage treatment for “Centre Stage” in the December 2010 issue of Flare Magazine (above left). Tony carefully glued loose and strip feathers around the eye and then filled in between with metallic shadows. He completed the feather-duster effect with Shu Uemura Black Velvet Feather Lashes.Tony’s secret to this look: “Ana’s patience and professionalism; this was a labour intensive application.”
For the editorial story “Best in Class” in September 2010 Flare (above centre),Tony gave Marina Jamieson a glassy-red lip and a heavy-brow. Tony: “This was my interpretation of the new direction in beauty; casual-lived-in hair contrasted with glam-makeup.” Inspired by,Cara Delevingne, the de rigueur bold-brow has become one of Tony’s specialties.
Our favourite,Frances Coombe,in “Beauty by the Decades” Flare March 2011 (above right). Tony’s dream make-up moment occurred when Frances said yes to bleaching out her brows. Tony: “Lightening the brows helps to lengthen the forehead and makes me think 70’s.” More good news: this image went international when Frances used it for her Spring/Summer 2012 Paris card.
